Woman Thought She Was Adopting a Kitten — Then It Turned Into A Beast The Size Of A Wolf

When Yulia Minina picked up a kitten two years ago, she thought she was getting a cuddly house companion.

Small, fluffy and quiet, the snow-white baby looked like the perfect addition to her home.

But Yulia had no idea that her little cat would one day tower over most dogs.

Living in the peaceful town of Stary Oskol in Russia, Yulia was drawn to the kitten’s gentle face and soft coat.

She named him Kefir, after the creamy dairy drink, not realizing just how fitting that name would become.

Because as it turns out, Kefir would not remain small for long.

Now nearly two years old, Kefir weighs over 12 kilograms and continues to grow. And not just in weight.

His long limbs, dense coat and impressive stature have transformed him into something far beyond the size of an ordinary housecat.

People who visit Yulia’s home are often left speechless. Some are convinced they’re looking at a dog. Others ask if he’s even real.

Many cannot believe their eyes until they see him move, stretch, or jump with the grace of a feline and the weight of a medium-sized canine.

“I never imagined he would become this big,” Yulia said. “At first he was like any other kitten. Tiny, playful, always curious. But then he just kept growing.”

Maine Coons are known for their size, but even by those standards, Kefir is extraordinary.

At just under two years old, he is still technically not fully grown.

Most Maine Coons continue to grow until the age of three or even four. So it is entirely possible that Yulia’s gentle giant still has more growing left to do.

But it is not just Kefir’s size that has made him the center of attention.

His personality is just as captivating.

“He is very calm and intelligent,” Yulia said.

“He seems to understand what is happening around him. He is affectionate and patient, even with strangers. But his eyes and expression are so human, it surprises people.”

Yulia explained that Kefir often becomes the highlight of any visit.

Friends and family who stop by end up spending more time with the cat than with her. And Kefir does not seem to mind the attention.

He welcomes strokes and sits calmly while people try to make sense of his appearance.

But Kefir does have one habit that has become more of a challenge over time.

“When he was a kitten, he liked to sleep on me at night,” Yulia said. “Back then it was cute. But now, with his size, it is not so easy. It’s like having a weighted blanket that moves.”

Despite the awkward sleeping arrangements, Yulia has never once regretted bringing Kefir home.

In fact, she says life with him is full of joy, even if it does come with a few unusual moments.

“He still thinks he is small,” she said. “Sometimes he tries to fit into tiny spaces or jump into my arms like he did when he was a baby. But now he’s heavy, and I have to be ready.”

Online, Kefir has become something of a sensation. Photos of Yulia holding him often leave viewers stunned.

In some images, it looks as though she is cradling a snow-white lion. Others compare him to a wolf.

Some even question if the photos have been altered.

But Yulia insists she does not touch up the pictures.

“I do not use Photoshop,” she said. “What you see is what he really looks like.”

Kefir’s thick coat, long tail and majestic posture have turned him into a star of sorts. But at home, he is just Yulia’s companion. Quiet, warm and always nearby.

“He is not just a pet,” she said. “He is part of the family. Every day he surprises me, whether it is with his size, his behavior or the way he shows love.”

As for whether she would ever consider getting another Maine Coon?

Yulia smiled and said, “Maybe. But I might need a bigger house.”
