I will never forget the first time I heard about Gomez. A seven-year-old black and white stray, found wandering near Dollis Hill in North West London. To anyone rushing by, he might have looked like just another cat living on the streets, but once you stopped and truly looked, the suffering was impossible to ignore. He kept shaking his head, scratching desperately, as if trying to escape a pain that never left him.
When Mayhew’s Animal Welfare Officers picked him up, they could see right away that this wasn’t just a small problem. He was terrified, fragile, and clearly exhausted. What broke my heart was imagining how long he must have lived like that-alone, in agony, and invisible to the world.
