“Condolences to all of Gus’s Family on your sad loss. Whenever I’d meet Gus his bicycle was never far away. If I met him while I was walking in the same direction he’d dismount his bike and we’d walk together and chat – he loved to chat. He was full of knowledgeable facts. I’ll miss seeing you on the Quay road and bumping into you in Aldi Gus. May your gentle soul rest in peace”.

Another message said, “Gus, you were a gentleman, who loved to ramble the roads on your bicycle. You were a kind, knowledgeable man. The last few months were hard on you, you needed a home, but little did we think that it’d be the Lord above who would give it to you. I do hope you have the most comfy bed up there – you deserve it. You were loved by all and will be remembered by all. Sleep well Gus. Condolences to all his family and all who mourn his passing. May his gentle soul now rest in eternal peace reunited with those gone before him. We will miss seeing you on the road and your great big wave. RIP Gus”.

Gus was featured in The Southern Star just days before he died where he said, “‘I’ve been farming all my life until I retired, I was born in the countryside and I want to stay living in the countryside. I would like to stay in this area, I’ve been here since 1993….I thank God I was out when the fire took but it has left me without anything. All the top floor went, there was smoke and water damage and everything downstairs was destroyed. It is gone.”RIP: ‘Loved by all’- Tributes paid to retired farmer (70s) found dead on road in CorkMore Story
